This is for customers whose devices were not online at the end of October 2023 when the services were disconnected and running devices were 'liberated' and converted to basic OpenWRT firmware.
If you reset a V3 unit that was not liberated, then you will get stuck in the initial configuration sequence, which depends on the (no longer running) web services. This article walks you through how to work around that and to then load a standard OpenWRT image on it.
To get around the 'Initialization Failure' or simply shortcut the whole config, click the title bar on the words 'Initial Configuration', which will take you to the set password screen. Once you set the password, it will take you to the login prompt.
Enter your password, and then pick Advanced->Advanced Menu
Note: if that has an issue, then use this direct URL: http://192.168.7.1/cgi-bin/luci/admin/system/flash
Once in the advanced menus, select System->Backup / Flash firmware
Then load the sysupgrade image downloaded from https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/22.03.5/targets/ramips/mt7621/openwrt-22.03.5-ramips-mt7621-zbtlink_zbt-we3526-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
Using the Flash Image button
Note: If your IQrouter was on firmware <4.x, then you will need to use the 'Force' checkbox to load 22.03 or newer OpenWRT.
Once it loads the image, please select the option to NOT keep settings, and proceed.
When it reboots, the router UI will be at 192.168.1.1 with no password.
